35028 - Clan Line
Hi all - So major question where is 35028 going to go after her mainline duties? I've heard the Bluebell for the rest of her ticket? But that is a couple of years off yet - Be Interesting if that crew give her one last good slog on the last day her mainline certificate expires.
I've heard good and bad things about the loco - Does anyone have anymore information?
Many Thanks
Andy

hmm, I think we are some years away from that. I think if the MNLPS read this, they would be tearing their hair out. She has, I believe a 10 year certificate, and has the VSOE contract. At least another 9 years to go, and they look after her.
I must treat myself, to a trip on her.

Unfortunately from the news I have read that she is mainline for 6 yrs and then the Bluebell are having her for the rest of her ticket. They have a contract to run her on the Bluebell. As for the VSOE Contract, this will with any doubt go to another Bulleid? I am thinking Braunton who is due to go Mainline test running very soon.
I too would love a ride behind her. Been years since I saw the ole girl and I was only a 'wee Nipper' :-)

Don, I totally agree with yourv sentiments.
35028, is a credit to MNLPS, and made a splendid job, in restoration; far IMHO; what BR could have achieved. Lets hope that they can keep up the goiod work; and that she can achieve "the impossible"

35028 cerainly is an asset! A fab looking loco and the crew/s certainly do a fine job on setting her out to still look new! And you cant fault the loco or the crew for a job well done!
35028 is due to remain mainline for a few years yet!!! And I hope I get to see the ole girl soon on the mainline! Maybe some good photo hotspots?
The cleaning and the work on the brass is the best quality I have seen on a mainline loco from looking at you're photo Don! And a really good photo at that! You have definately captured the moment!
Glad you can now post photos! Keep it up! :-)
Thanks
Andy

Admin, I fully support what you say, concerning Clan Line today. She is an asset.
But looking back, there were all excellent MNs, withdrawn, before their time?

And finally from me here's the log of the super run from Waterloo to Worting Junction on 23rd May, believed to be the fastest with steam since November 1966 and nearly 1 minute inside the okd ACE schedule. The engine was hardly extended but mainly full regulator and 20%, increased to 30% to pull the fire round after Woking, a tactic which nearly always works but is often forgotten by some drivers of Tangmere.

What better place to post my log of my best down ACE run! 35028 of course. Along with driver Fred Hoare and fireman Pete Allen proved a superb combination for the week 20th to 24th July 1964. I was on the down ACE every day that week. All good runs, but the best was that with 35028 on the Friday.

Pete was a really nice guy, quiet and competent. So sad he died at such a young age.
I suppose most of the top link drivers will no longer be with us either but at least their names and exploits are recorded here for ever.

Very sad to hear that Peter Allen is no longer with us. Especially as he was still young in the modern scheme of things.
Before long I'll tabulate that whole week's work he did with Fred Hoare on the down ACE that week.
Gone but not forgotten.

Does anyone have any pictures and timings from yesterdays Somerset and Dorset run?
Re: 35028 - Clan Line
35028 it is currently at LNWR Crewe for some work to be carried out including journal turning. The loco is due to be rewheeled next week. As I am at Crewe Heritage Centre /LNWR Crewe next weekend I will try and get some pictures.

I am glad to see that 35028 is now being tested on the mainline. Let's hope that they have now got everything sorted.

Re: 35028 - Clan Line
What is the outcome to the mainline test run?? I suspect all went well from what i have seen and heard and the Youtube video's I have seen. I understand that one run was at a slow run. i am of course delving into the run with 35028 + Support Coach + Box.

Quite right, after the amount of work carried out on the bottom end they wanted to make sure all was ok + the box on the back could be used to vary the load if needed.

Re: 35028 - Clan Line
So was everything successful with the Injectors this time?? If so; lets hope for some fab steamings later on this month. Be good to see some shots posted of tomorrow's run of which I believe is the first proper run after the repairs?
Re: 35028 - Clan Line
Has 35028 got a false/temporary numberplate on the smokebox door? http://www.clan-line.org.uk/html/08_01_11.html
Also another question is why does she carry the 73A Shed-Plate for Stewarts Lane? Although she started of at 73A - She ended up at 70A (Nine Elms) towards the end of her working life.

Not sure about the smokebox numberplate but I believe that the relevance of the 73A Shed Plate is a nod to where the loco is based (and was based).

I see that 35028 is being shown as doing some of the "Torbay Express" workings during the 2012 summer

Hi all,
According some news Clan Line failed it's FTR last night so is being taken over by 67020. Does anyone know what she failed on? (Must be a day for failures because our Car failed it's MOT!)
