Locos that should have been preserved

Hi all,

What or which locos would some of you like to have seen preserved? One of mine is a Bulleid which had many good runs and some more which I am waiting to hear about and this is 34056 'Croydon'

I've seen many a good footage and heard great things about this Salisbury loco.

I'd love to hear some stories about this engine.

My own preference for an engine which should have been preserved but wasn't is a Brighton "K".

From what I read they were good engines &, in my opinion, a good looking engine

The 'K' class looked a beautiful loco. I wonder if years to come there could be a project to make one from scratch such as the LMS Patriot Project & the 82045 Locomotive Trust along with many others out there? You only have to look at the recent project of Tornado to show that this can be done if parts & patterns/Drawings are acquired.

Apparently there was 1 'K' Class that was resurrected to help out in late 1962 and the Bluebell railway as I understand it tried to buy it. Except their funds were tied up in the line iteself.

My nomination wouldn't be a southern loco - Gresley's Bantam Cock would be my candidate.

I believe this is being considered as a possible project after the Atlantic is finnished.

Would be good to see - Although I feel the Atlantic project is some years away yet? I guess it all depends on funds and manpower....

On a different note, I saw this Video today. Who feels that the railway is Withdrawn and cutting up locomotives far too quickly? Especially for the way that they have overhauled the HST's in recent years and started building other new stock.... Quite a waste.

I would love to have seen a 'W' preserved. The just did exactly what they were built to do, 'fast' inter-yard freight across London. Fantastic engines.

I would vote for the 'K' as well, with its reputation for hauling 1000 ton freights at 30-35 mph, a very fine engine. OK, I might be biased as I've just bought a gas-fired Gauge 1 version - have to wait a week to post pics, it's very very pretty. Head over to Rushford Barn models for a preview

Also, maybe, an F1, out of curiosity. 7' drivers on a 4-4-0 and they handled the Surrey Hills passenger traffic for decades. Must have been interesting to see!
