73119, 10.54 SO Relief to the ACE.
About the Summer of1963, I had the pleasure of working this relief train, to the Atlantic Coast Express. We were booked a MN class loco, but my Driver and I had a Standard 5, no 73119. Charlie said to me, shall we go for it. I said yes. The timings were tight.
But we arrived at Salisbury early, Charlie had achieved a record. What a trip that was, she was over for steam all the way
Happy Days.
I saw Charlie 2 years ago, and he asked me the number. I had forgotten, Charlie hadnt.
Lets hope, when he learns of this forum; that he joins.

An Interesting read here about the names being transferred from the N15 class to the Standards. http://www.kentrail.co.uk/br_standard_5mt.htm
Do you remember seeing 73119 with the namplate "Elaine"??
A picture of 73119 at speed is shown about half way down the page. As anyone knows - These Standards can surprise you. Great Work Horses!

Nice piece on the standard 5s - for a piece about their work on the LSWR check Steam Days issue 237 May 2009.
