Re: Formula 1
Not a big fan of F1 but I do enjoy the production saloon car racing. Real racing - wing mirror to wing mirror at tracks all round the UK in cars that we could own - well nearly.

Re: Formula 1
The last race - Was to put it mildly "Exciting"
I am so glad that Mark Webber got out of his Red Bull alive!! Goes to show that Red Bull really does give you wings!

Re: Formula 1
So would anyone who is Vaguely interested in F1 like to say who will be this years champion? I hope it isn't going to be Alonso.... Any of the Mclaren boys would certainly make me proud! Although i would love to see one of the Red-Bulls win; especially Mark Webber!! :-)
Re: Formula 1
So what do others think about only half of the races being shown on the BBC this season? I for one am not happy! Nor, will I be paying out for Sky. I see this as a lose, lose situation for everybody involved!
Re: Formula 1
I used to follow Formula 1 in the 1970s/80s and 90s, however today it's lost it's appeal to me, especially since "artificial" overtaking aids such as KERS and DRS have been introduced. What's DRS if not a moveable aerodynamic device which is banned in F1?
Having seen Jacky Ickx in a Lotus drive all the way around Niki Lauda in a Ferrari in the wet at Paddock (Brands Hatch) at the Race of Champions in 1974. I'd love to find some footage of it. The only pictorial record of the event I can find is a Michael Turner painting. I was marshalling at post 4 which is on the inside of the circuit at the bottom of the dip between Paddock and Druids and all of us fire marshals, to a man, reached for our extinguishers as we watched the move develop. We also prepared to take cover! Now that's overtaking!
I also believe that motor racing is a non-contact sport which is why I'm not particularly enamoured with the current British Touring Car Championship.
My main interest is now in endurance racing, especially the European and American Le Mans series and, of course, le Vingt-Quatre Heures du Mans.
If you want to put things in perspective look at the story of Gunnar Nilsson. At a time when the sport was taking a lot of lives the former Lotus driver who'd just signed for Arrows was diagnosed with cancer and died in 1978, a month before his 30th birthday.

Re: Formula 1
Hi all,
With the new V6 Engines taking place shortly. Has anyone seen the track action at Jerez? What do people think of the new V6 Engines again the V8's? For me; they don't quite sound the same! But loving some of the different designs! Especially the new McLaren!
Cheers

Re: Formula 1
A lot to discuss for this years calendar....
1) Marussia now not racing as Force India don't like the idea of them racing with the 2014 car because they went into Administration and couldn't afford to build a 2015 car.... IMHO - It's not fair as they are a back marker team anyway....
2) With Lewis Hamilton and Nicole having split again will Lewis this year stand any chance of winning a third World Title??
Feel free to discuss.....

Re: Formula 1
So BBC doing (Not such a great job) of removing F1 from their screens and going to channel 4. Does anyone know if DC, SP, EJ and co will be going across to Channel 4? I certainly hope so!.....
