Re: 35001 - Channel Packet
Andy,
Sorry I can't help shed-wise.
She was rebuilt in August 1959 having clocked up 807,318 miles. She was withdrawn in November 1964 with 1,095,884 miles, and cut up the following year by Birds ( Swansea )
Alistair.

Re: 35001 - Channel Packet
From what I have found, it appears she was an Exmouth Jct loco? Although I cant say this is definate?
But did she remain there throughout her whole working life?
Appears she was converted in August 1959.... And she used to be in Wartime Black livery! Would love to see a picture of this, if anyone has a picture?
Thanks
Andy

Had a very memorable trip on this engine with the late Gordon Porter on a down boat train. She was as rough as a bears bum but she steamed like a gud un. My abiding memory is of hurtling through Surbiton the valves lifting and Gordon remarking that he'd not seen a fire like that since he was a stoker. I know several of you hold Gordon in high regard - a sentiment I agree with - he was a geuninely nice guy to fire for - knotted hanky and all.

Re: 35001 - Channel Packet
The allocation of this engine from the 1950's was (as far as I can establish):
Till 1/57: Exmouth Junc
1/57 - 5/59: Stewarts Lane
5/59 - 8/64: Nine Elms
8/64 - 12/64: Bournemouth
Then withdrawn
These dates are approximate.

Re: 35001 - Channel Packet
I wonder why this loco was never preserved? As by all accounts a good loco?
Re: 35001 - Channel Packet
It appears as though Channel Packet has been brought back from the dead!! Except not on the same scale. News here;

Looks a lovely model miniature and good to see they have constructed this as acurately as possible!

I know you can't have too much of a good thing, but MN fans can hardly claim that they are under-represented in preservation.
