BoB's in Rebuilt or Unrebuilt form
Hi all,
To start this topic off! Am I right in thinking there is only 1 BoB in Rebuilt form left in preservation today?
Thanks in advance
Andy

Re: BoB's in Rebuilt or Unrebuilt form
Hi Andy.
There are three in preservation - 34059 is the only operational one at present.
34053 "Sir Keith Park" is currently undergoing restoration by by Souther Locomotives Ltd.

It was intended to fit 34070 "Manston" with TPWS & OTMR and get it mainline certified, and the decision was made that given Sir Keith Park's role in the Battle of Britain, the money necessary would instead be used for the restoration of 34053, thus depriving people of the possible opportunity to travel behind an as-built BoB double-header on the mainline!
The other one is 34058 "Sir Frederick Pile", but there does not seem to be a great deal going on at present -

Re: BoB's in Rebuilt or Unrebuilt form
Thanks 34070 Manston - Sorry I meant BoB's in service - Be it rebuilt or unrebuilt.
I think there are plans a-foot for an unrebuilt pacific?

I posted something about this as a result of seing an article in The Railway Magazine a couple of montths ago. I don't recall, however, if it was on this group or the "round robin" email.Admin wrote:MN.....

Re: BoB's in Rebuilt or Unrebuilt form
If my memory serves me correctly - Wasn't it Heritage Rail magazine?
It would be great to see a rebuilt MN turned to Unrebuilt form. I understand that whichever MN it is that it is planned to go mainline??

I certainly saw it in The Railway Magazine - it was near the front on an odd-numbered ( right hand page ) , and on the opposite page was a photo of a 395 taken by Alan Crotty.
There were no names named, and the article said there were two possible donor locomotives, but don't ask me which ones.

You'll be relieved to know, or not as the case maybe, but I haven't entirely lost my marbles!
I put a posting on the "Preserved Steam" section on July 8th, entitled "The Railway Magazine"
