"Imagine my surprise when"...................
...................I opened the latest copy of "Heritage Railway" and came across an article, with some lovely colour shots, about Stanier "Black Fives" written by our very own 35013 Blue Funnel, with archive b/w photos from Don Benn.
Worth buying the mag for that article alone!
On a different tack, I wonder if Alan Crotty's photo of the double header will get into next month's "The Railway Magazine"? A worthy entry, I feel.

Do you have a scanned version you could possibly post on here please? Which photo is this of Alan Crotty's double header is this? All seems to have gone quiet on the round-robin email front lately?

Unfortunately, I do not have the wherewithal for scanning and suchlike.35005CP wrote:Do you have a scanned version you could possibly post on here please? Which photo is this of Alan Crotty's double header is this? All seems to have gone quiet on the round-robin email front lately?

One thing that does intrigue me is that the cab of the locomotive in which our venerated moderator is pictured does not match his username.
The locomotive shown is 35023 Holland Afrika Line
Is there a story here, Mr Moderator?

Re: "Imagine my surprise when"...................
There's no mystery about my avatar. I have very few photos of me during my Nine Elms career - hence a pic of 35023 and not 35013. I picked 35013 because I was born on the 13th and I had some really memorable trips with 35013 on the back working of the 4.40am Salisbury papers. 35013 would steam on a candle and Sooty Saunders would often let me have a go on the regulator on this turn. He also used to always want to get back into W/loo early so he could get his train home to Feltham and as a result we would often regularly beat the set timings from Andover to W/loo which was non-stop.
Glad you liked the Black 5 piece. Will have something similar on the Scots later this year in HR - keep you posted on when it comes out!!

Most enlightening, 35013 Blue Funnel, and a lovely little anecdote for good measure!35013 Blue Funnel wrote:There's no mystery about my avatar. The Black 5 article was most interesting, with timings by a certain Terry Lawlor as well!
I'm looking forward to your next article.
