A very interesting post On Loan. Memories of the U class (montgolipers), the Ns, and the Q1s at Guilford.. I went on loan, a couple of times, but managed a WC,so felt completely at home. And not many WCs visited Guilford as you know.

It didnt do that Driver much harm, whom was always bare chested, never wore a shirt, in Summer or Winter, what was his name; now?

Went on loan to Guilford a couple of times. In those days; some Depots were short of staff.

Times have obviously changed! Was 45mph the running tender first back in the lates 50's/60's?
I would imagine that all depots used Turntables at every opportunity to turn the locos?

Thanks in advance.
