Re: Did Basingstoke have a shed?
A guest has messaged to me to say that Basingstoke did have a shed. Thanks to this person for pointing this out. Here is the link; http://www.johnhaydenart.co.uk/2010/12/basingstoke-shed/
It looked a fairly small; but modern shed for its time. Does anyone else have any other details or pictures please?

Here's a photo from the SLL collection of Sir Keith Park at Basingstoke shed in 1963:

And here's a story about it:
My dad was Fire Prevention Officer for the SR. After Basingstoke Shed was closed they were asked to provide a building to demonstrate a novel ventilation system which a supplier wanted to sell the railway which would reduce the spread of a fire if one broke out. Basingstoke Shed was selected as it was no longer needed and the new vents were fitted. My dad and other guests went along to see the demo. A fire was started in the shed.....the vents opened....and the fire spread and spread and the vents had no discernable effect. Back to the drawing board!
