Southern Locomotives Ltd Empty Southern Locomotives Ltd

Post by 35005CP Fri Jan 27, 2012 8:19 am

Hi all,

Since I have decided to add this new thread; I thought I would add a Topic dedicated to Southern Locomotives Ltd. These guys do a fantastic job as can be seen over the months and are soon to see another Bulleid added to their running fleet. Lets hope Manston is back in action soon.

A recent update added to their website here;

If anyone lives close to Herston Works and can lend a hand, please can you contact Nick Thompson of SLL or message NickT via here. Or alternatively you can PM me directly and I will pass on you're details. I am sure he will look forward to hearing from you. Very Happy

BTW, if I lived close enough to Hampshire and Dorset borders, I too would be getting stuck in to get these fine machines back and running!

Thanks Andy. We still have a lot of work to do on Sir Keith Park, and when we start taking 257 Squadron to bits during 2012 we'll have even more. If you're fairly fit and moderately practical there will be something useful for you to do. Volunteers who are local tend to come in one or two days a week and stick to "their" project. Those of us who come from further afield generally come for the two day workshop sessions listed on the website.

Drop me a PM if you'd like to know more.

We also need financial support. We offer our shareholders an annual opportunity to drive and fire a Bulleid - need I say more?

Cheers,

Nick

What are the latest updates since SKP left for the SVR? Is there any work now being attended to 257 Squadron?
Thanks
Andy

Most of the effort is still going into fixing glitches on SKP at Bridgnorth. We've cleared the workshop and are planning how to strip down and overhaul 257 Squadron; serious work on that should start in a few weeks.

And don't forget the Oscar winning video showing Hot Riveting of the new tender frames:

On the subject of Oscars, Daniel Day-Lewis's step-brother is Sean Day-Lewis, who wrote a book about O V S Bulleid.
