Hi all,

Apparently this fab loco is due to go in for overhaul (Being the MHR 'Flagship loco') next year. She will apparently need a new firebox from what I understand? And is apparently going in either next year or early 2011?

I've heard great things about this loco from the 60's.. What was her best run?

Best Wishes

Andy

Not likely to be overhauled for some while certainly not until after 76017 and 34105 have been completed. Firebox not too bad but does require a new front tubeplate which the railway already has in stock.

I sincerely hope she gets done after 34105!

She is the Flagship off the line afterall!! I don't think she will go mainline again though? And such a shame.... A fantastic loco that I have had the pleasure of firing so many times!! And I have emptied her whole tender!!!

35005's tender is now in the main shed at Ropley being overhauled / prepaired to run with 34007. The tender on loan from 34039 is due to return to the G.C.R. for overhaul and also unfortunately now leaks like a sieve.

What is happening with 34007's new tender and wheelset sitting down at Alresford that was sent from the Bodmin & Wenford later on after the loco left?

I believe that 35005's tender is being used to to keep 34007 running. 34007's will be attended to once they have a full set of parts for it. As you know they are now having the correct B.F.B. wheels cast then there is the small matter of the new tyres, axles and axleboxes to sort out before the frames can be fully erected. The frames themselves I believe were not far off completion (less wheels, brakes and plumbing etc) when they left the W.S.R.

I have heard and seen alot of speculation that 35005 is to be overhauled/stored at Eastleigh? Does anybody have any concrete evidence to suggest either way please?
Also rumours are afoot that she might be 8 years before being overhauled?

The loco was due to go off site for display / storage at a new museum which is now way behind schedule hence the change of plan. Eastleigh is an option to store the loco but will require a tender if it goes ahead. I believe other options are being investigated but restoration is ccertainly not planned in the immediate future.

Lack of funds and workshop capacity are the reasons why we unfortunately haven't started overhauling 35005 yet. Funds have gone into 45379, 75079 and 925.

We will be doing something soon to protect "CP" from the elements. Watch www.watercressline.co.uk during the next couple of months.

The loco is owned by the Mid Hants Railway Preservation Society. If the MHRPS were to launch an appeal towards a 10 year Overhaul, would members of this forum be interested in contributing?

Hi Smiffy,

I for one am in the 105 clan to help towards the overhaul. I am sure our moderator on here is discussing things right now. The plan is also to try and get her mainline.

Oh and its great to have you onboard!! Very Happy

35005 was shunted out of the Ropley headshunt today and coupled to the tender 34007 was using.
Things are happening!

Wasn't 35005's old tender now being used on on 34007? And i thought 34007's old tender was on loan from Boscastle? So i would have thought that the tender that came from the Bodmin and Wenford could have possibly been built and made for 35005?

Is this move still going ahead tomorrow. The Information has partially dissapeared off the website....
Here was the Info; Alton at 14:20pm and will arrive at Eastleigh at 17:35 via Guildford; Havant & Botley.
There isn't anything on uksteam.info on LE movements to say this is going ahead still with times?

I would say that most; if not all of the loco could be salvaged once she is overhauled? The pipes look in very good condition. Obviously the wheels and internal motion and boiler & Firebox will need some work. But great to see she made it to Eastleigh without any problems. I would imagine she needs a new ash pan after the last time I was on her on the footplate and seeing the dent that is still there. Most definately my favourite loco of all time!! I'm going to miss seeing the ole girl in steam. Is there a date of CP returning to steam? Or will she be after Cheltenham?

The MHRPS have posted an update on the website to help return Canadian Pacific to steam. I am sure many of you will share in my thoughts that this loco is one of the finest around. If you can donate in any way please can you follow the link here; http://www.watercressline.co.uk/News/Latest/View/824

Subject to the agreement of Arlington Fleet Services, we are hoping to start the overhaul of 35005 "Canadian Pacific" inside Eastleigh Works early in 2013.

We will be seeking to recruit some more volunteers. These will strengthen our Eastleigh team, created for the overhaul of the NRM Schools class loco "Cheltenham" which was completed in May this year.

Please watch our website watercressline.co.uk for an announcement which will contain information on how to get involved.
