Re: New Moderator
Not the 02.15 papers but most definitely the 02.45 - one of my favourite turns. The back working with a semi-fast, Winchester - W/loo was always a joy. Often used to get a go on the regulator on this one usually from Soton to Basin. It made such a nice change to see Sooty sweating instead of me.

Re: New Moderator
I am just wondering Dave, if "Sooty" Saunders is still with us?
Going back to the papers, I still preferred the 02.15 papers!

Re: New Moderator
Hi 34017 Ilfaracombe,
I haven't seen 'Sooty' since Andy Naish got 35005 running again at Loughborough circa 1990. He'd been away from the footplate for a very long time. By now he's is in his seventies, so I don't know if he's computer literate or not - I suspect not. I haven't seen anything from him on the other NE website and he doesn't seem to be in any of the pics I've seen from the reunions at the Bluebell. He was involved in getting David Shepards 9F running back in the late 70 - early 80s but as I've mentioned I don't know what he's upto these days.
He lived in Feltham, but I don't have an address and it's nearly twenty years since we last met. Sorry I cannot be more helpful on this one.
Talking of 'papers' I also enjoyed the 4.40 papers - again the back working was a semi-fast Andover - W/loo. Sooty always wanted to be early into W/loo to catch his train home - had some really good thrashes on this turn.

Re: New Moderator
I havent seen "Sooty" since the 60s. He is a character, but most of them were/are!
I think that you are talking about the 0933 Salisbury - Wloo, that was Andover in, wasnt it? I never did that turn.

Re: New Moderator
I think you're right about the back working - I seem to recall we needed to be at W/loo by 11.05 so that Sooty could make the 11.12 service to Feltham. I think the booked time was 11.08, but it could easily have been 11.18 - it's avery long time ago now.
